Coffee thoughts

  Airlie  Café 25/03/2023 I've finally circled back to the first café on my list. It turns out they were closed while the business changed hands. They've only been open a couple of weeks or maybe a week. I knew they were back open because my dad had to take cover there during the early morning storm on Thursday. A couple of little known facts about the Airlie site. It was always an aged care facility, that also housed disabled and/or mentally disabled (had a mental breakdown, or had schizophrenia etc and unable to live independently) people for as long as I knew. I that is all it had been, but I found out recently it had been a maternity hospital prior to that. It was quite disappointing when Airlie Aged Care closed down as I knew the staff and some of the residents through my job at the time, and the staff did an amazing job with them.   Café Tre Fontane 18/03/2023 Let's dive in since my coffee came as soon as I sat down. My rating: Coffee look - 1 Coffee flavour - 1 Price - $6.50 = 0 (almost tempted to go -1 at that price) Pram friendly - 0 Atmosphere - 0.5 Total: 2.5/5 The coffee itself is great flavour and looks wise. The froth was a bit lacklustre and thin. I couldn't actually smell that much coffee aroma, so was pleasantly surprised by the big hit of flavour. The price at $6.50 for a large decaf is atrocious, but at least it is a good coffee. Most definitely not pram friendly indoors or out on the sidewalk. The atmosphere is ok if you like really cramped Italian style cafes. Bottom line, if you are desperate for a decent decaf coffee to go this is your place, but not if you have a pram with you. Worth a look if you are sans kids or getting a to go. I've been feeling a nit meh again mentally and physically again. Whispers Social Enterprise Cafe 09/03/2023 What a week it has been... We got back from Colac at 4:30pm after leaving the parents in law's place at 11:45am. We stopped at Waurn Ponds for lunch at just before 1 and were on the road again just before 2. It should have taken us about 1.5 hours to get home from there, but we got caught up in the Avalon Airshow traffic. My husband was driving and started to feel headachy. I was also not feeling 100% at lunchtime but didn't think much about it. By dinner time he was really sick, could barely eat and had a temperature. Not long after that I had a temperature of 40 degrees. Turns out our daughter wasn't just teething last week, she was sick and gave it to both of us. We're both fine now, but boy we were both knocked out for a few days.   Degani Ivanhoe Plaza 02/03/23 Slight deviation from the list as I got up the hill and decided I was too tired from the last couple of days to go further. But more on that later, my coffee has arrived: Coffee look - 1 Coffee flavour - 1 Price - $5.50 = 1 Pram friendly - 0.5 Atmosphere - 1 Total: 4.5/5 As always, fantastic coffee here, but I expected as much having been an on and off regular of this Degani since it opened many years ago. The foam is always silky smooth, the coffee hot and with an excellent flavour. My only half mark off is that it only has a few spots where you can fit a pram. This is only a problem when they are super busy, and I've always found the staff to be accommodating. Now, back to why I'm tired... I did CPR on Monday to start getting ready for my return to work in a few months. Expressed milk like I do everyday at the moment for childcare, and did some other running around I do when child free. And then came Tuesday... My baby pretty much slept all day...

  Extracted 23/02/2023 I did it! I'm finally at the halfway point of this list, and today I have my little sidekick with me. My coffee came out quick so let's dive in: Coffee look - 1 Coffee flavour - 0.5 Price - $5.50 = 1 Atmosphere - 1 Pram friendly - 0.5 Total: 4/5 The coffee looked promising when it was brought out but ended up being a bit disappointing for a couple of reasons. When I went to sniff it there was no discernible coffee smell so I was already primed for disappointment. I started to tuck into the froth and it just kept going and going, almost halfway down the mug. The first few spoonfuls of froth were nice, but it really shits me when cafes do this. Especially when you order a large and essentially end up with not much more than a regular with extra froth. Anyway, the coffee flavour is definitely there when you get to it, but not nice. Not burnt or anything, just meh with an odd after taste. That is why it only got 0.5 and not full marks. The café itself is very...
